It wouldn't be right to say we were the 2nd worst run club last season alone, no, Generally speaking though, consistently underachieving year in year out as opposed to a short term blip, we absolutely are among the worst run clubs. Obviously that's not just the current owners fault, but to what extent they can address that general trend remains to be seen. Last season wasn't a very encouraging sign.
In tier 5 we had nothing to compare them with. Now we have the one season in tier 4 and that was below average.
11k gates is a bit deceptive in terms of improving off the field. Relative to other clubs we've mostly sized up as a mid-table L1 club gates wise since we dropped into tier 3 in 1995. The fans have done their bit, you can't ask any more of them. It's up to whoever owns the club to step up to the plate and deliver.
Compare that position to the result before they took over?
This is the first season they've missed the playoffs. Fantastic owners so far IMO.
I'm worried about SM too, don't get me wrong. I really hope they know what they're doing with him, cos so far he has absolutely not impressed.
If a couple of months adjusting to a new manager was enough for you to lose the buzz built over a number of years, then maybe you arent the yardstick for buzz we are looking for.
If you want to talk black and white facts (and how they show that its not all doom and gloom like you want to make us all believe):
Last season in Notts Co. History:
4th Most points in a league 2 season this century.
3rd Highest goals scored in a season this century.
Highest average attendance this century.
Funny how you can use FACTS to paint any picture you want isnt it.
Given the transfer window opens on the 14th, I’m gonna hazard a guess that it’s to let clubs sniffing around Macca, ‘he’s not for sale’. It’s also Macca’s opportunity to let clubs know that he is settled at Notts.
I think you are being overly cynical in thinking that it’s somehow a ploy to drive season ticket sales. I can’t imagine there has been a sudden surge in season ticket sales since.
Even if you are right, which I don’t think you are, then so what. Announcing your crown jewel, the man described by LW as the king of meadow lane, is a master stroke.
There is a limit to how selective you can be with the facts before people realise you're just desperately trying to save face after making a claim that is objectively not true. You can't finish in a below average position for the period that YOU decided to frame and say last season was, not just better, but MILES better.
Nobody goes home from Meadow Lane thinking we've won because we scored 3 goals when a below average opposition came from 3-0 down to win 4-3, do they. You'll get the odd happy clapper trying to be positive because it's the most goals we've scored in x weeks, but the majority will know full well we've chucked away the 3 points.
He is for sale at the right price. He will be happy to go if the right offer comes along. Just as LW was. I'm sure the club's, Macca's and other suitor club's positions haven't changed since the season ended.
Who knows whether he'll stay. My guess is he'll be off. I thought the same a year ago, but think it's even more likely this year.
Their are some very sad, unhappy people on this board.
Have you not enjoyed the football of the last 2 or 3 seasons? It is miles and miles better than most of the dross I have had to watch over the decades.
As for last season, it was not the owners fault (nor SM's) that LW walked out on us mid season. That was absolutely the worst possible time to go.
And what about all the off the field ventures. Sound system, complete revamp on the pitch (with undersoil heating possibilities), The Nest with its' potential to considerably improve the clubs' finances.
These things are gradually moving the club forward to help provide a more enjoyable experience for "most" fans.
Slowly, slowly catchee monkey. The results will come.
If you want to look at badly run clubs, just look at their pitches, toilet facilities, refreshments etc. I am sure Durham could rattle off a very long list in no time at all.
I think we at Notts County have got something to be proud of.
