Well, yes... how far back into the past is reasonable? Who knows??

On the other hand, it amazes me that the USA (for instance) has never even acknowledged (let alone tried to make amends for) their near genocide against the North American native peoples. I guess if you are the ideal, perfect country (manifest destiny with a double thumbs up from the almighty, no less) you cannot admit any wrong doing almost by definition.

"Where they belong" is matter of opinion, where they end up is summat else. Do they belong in a museum where they can be seen by all? Or will they end up in some Greek billionaire's private collection, kept away from all?

We should only give them back if the Greek postal service gives me back the 200 Euros that disappeared when it was sent for a holiday in Kefallonia. Fair do's.

Wasn't that initially due to 'European' actions from late 15th Century onwards rather than USA which didn't come into being until 1776. So European colonizers responsible? Introduction of European diseases as well as the 'normal' hostile actions.

You're right - just how far back do we go? Human nature is to conquer land and resources for the benefit of your own people to ensure their survival.

At independence the USA was a relatively small strip on the Atlantic coast (the 13 colonies). The vast majority of genocidal attack on the native peoples is USA responsibility.
