Maynard was a mid season appointment so you want to get your man in as quickly as possible, and that one still took nearly 2 weeks. Like I said, I wouldn't worry.

True. The only other time the bros sacked a manager, IB was appointed within a few days. That said, I think Ardley was sacked at that time specifically because IB was available. I'm certain they'll have a list of potential coaches to go to, so they won't be starting their search from scratch. We should hear something next week I'd imagine.

I don't for one second consider the action the Bros have taken to be an emergency. In a rare glass half full moment I would like to think that they may have realised that they need to stop speculating if they really want promotion and get a person with a proven record in to get the job done.

I do like the NL playoff format, but York were at a distinct disadvantage this season going into that game having not played for 15 days, while Oldham had played the week before, got a decent win, and were match sharp. We all want someone with multiple EFL promotions but even so I think Hinshelwood would be a very good appointment.
That's what I thought, Notts nearly came a cropper at the semi-final stage too. The system is supposed to favour the highest placed teams, but really it doesn't, that gap without a game is a disadvantage. So Hinshelwood is pretty much in the same position as Williams at the same stage. I would rather a manager who does it over 46 games than a play-off specialist. We have 3 spaces to aim for, not one, like the NL.

Having said that, I'm not yet convinced the bros won't appoint Alves, or just as bad, insist he carries on as assistant coach. The alternative would be to demote him.

How about Steve cooper ? He lives locally out of work and could be sold the project ? Not sure he?d want to drop to league 2 however But family considerations may make the Notts job more attractive.

Sacking the head coach without a replacement lined up? Not really the brothers' style, I would've thought.

At least they did it at the end of the season so it's not necessarily a deathblow to the next one.
I'm not too nervous. If it's a case of waiting a short while for the right candidate to 'become available', rather than appointing a compromise option quickly, I think most people would accept the wait. Also, as has been said before, the collaborative way Notts County make decisions on signings etc., means that the club doesn't come to a complete halt just because one component is temporarily missing. The Head Coach is obviously a very important component, so there' a limit to how far you can take that argument, but if we had to wait another week or so for the new appointment I don't think it would break the system.

Probably still way out of our range at present, but if we were able to attract a candidate of that calibre to League Two level it would be a huge coup and quite a good match for the owners' philosophy, even though he is an ex-Red.

Hinshelwood's record against the top 7 this season wasn't bad, W6 D4 L2 but we're talking about a division in which only three clubs had an average attendance that broke through the 4,000 barrier, York being the 3rd best supported behind the two teams who have reached the play off final.

He did finish strongly (other than losing out to Oldham) and 96 pts is some sort of achievement. Better on paper than Maynard but again that's not saying much. Would think most would be prepared to give him more time than Maynard before making their minds up though, if he is the man chosen.

    This isn't an emergency.

Treat it like that and we'll get a knee-jerk reaction appointment.

Take time, get the right man.
