I also think a top 10 finish is wishful thinking. Even more so now Nombe will be missing for at least a few months and maybe more.

The next 5 matches will set the tone.
The next 5 matches will probably be inconsistent but hoping they are better than that.
What would represent a decent return from the next 5 games ?

This team will be fine this season and can see a top 10 finish. . Not ideal for the glass half empty gang.
Btw love the comments about 2 AVG teams. Always the same when we win. Haha.
Agree regarding Hugill. Hold up play was fine, as a whole we need to do more to get players in and around him and the other striker.

Regs expectations, I love your optimism Cayton, but I challenge where the goals come from for a top 10 finish. I think so far we've seen a bit of impotence in terms of chance creation, and with Nombe out of the side, fearing for the worst. Naturally a season can change with 2/3 additions that elevate the group, but I'm not convinced the budget is there to bring in the gamechangers. Happy to be proven incorrect.

I thrive off optimism. Why worry about what we can't control. Nombe is out. Mcguckin is off the pace. So is etete and kayode...
Ok we play 1 uptop hugill and Holmes/Martha behind him. Stick to a flat back 4 with Powell, McWilliams and yearwood in the middle. We always have hall and marvelous Kelly gore to chip in.
We are overrun with midfielders. Imo pack it and use them.

Good question. So a decent return would be 10 points - 2 point per game average. But I’ve just had a close look, and discarding the Burton postponement, we have some very tough fixtures.

    Cardiff, Wigan, Donny, Bolton, Exeter.

I think we will do well to get 4 points from them. I’d happily be very wrong.

Five is 'progress' from last season. We should manage six (two from the away games, four from the home), or possibly up to eight. Let's not lose sight of the fact that last season we didn't win a second game until the 9th fixture, and were 19th (level with 21st) at the point these next five had been played.

Cardiff (0, any a bonus), Wigan (1), Donny (1 would be handy), Exeter (should hope for 3), Dons (1, but ideally 3)

Yearwood on 2nd half last night Powell two I'd go with McWilliams is he another off the pace? Midfield 3. Only way same with McGuckin to get them match sharp is to play them. Need a big forward.

McWilliams first game last night and still running when he came off. Agree with mcguckin but is he good enough is the question. Your magic eye thinks he is. Seasoned home and away pros like yak say no .

2 points a game is top 6 form
Not a good return if you think we are getting promoted but you think we're doomed so 4 point would be a great return.
Btw see port vale won again last night

I think once McWilliams got a few games under his belt last season he hit a run of his form and was a big miss when he got injured again. I'd like to see him in attacking midfield role. And my eye is magic.

Martha will be class along with some of the other new boys. Holmes had impact.
You need sectioning for your own safety and safety to others.

Not quite sure what the hatred is for?H e has a point. As far as i remember wingers are supposed to beat a man and put a cross in.In a game and a half, Martha has done neither, am i wrong?Hughill isnt everybodys favourite, but he wont score without service, neither will Nombe.
