How many of his companies went bust? How many companies has he started? What do you think the purpose of a limited company is? Do you think businesses are all plain sailing?

Well given I own 2 although not on the Trump scale obviously Yeah I think I can say that I have some knowledge on the subject. I can also say that I would never sell any of my subcontractors out and send them bust as well whilst knowing I could pay them out of personal funds comfortably and then claim to represent them in an election. If you want to know how many of his ventures went bust perhaps look into his nefarious Casino building activities or the famed Trump University. A couple that come to mind with zero research. Perhaps he should've grabbed 'em by the ***** to make them succeed?

The glib answer would be a Russian perspective, and perhaps various other non-western countries who have a different definition of democracy compared with us, but perhaps that needs unpacking a little more.

Being a westerner, I don't perceive Russia as a democratic country, and I'm highly dubious about the democratic claims of various other countries, not least those who seem to like to call themselves Democratic Republics!

However, the West really has no more divine right to define the interpretation of democracy than anyone else, indeed the British interpretation of a democratic system could certainly be open to question when you see the outcomes delivered by First Past The Post the other week!

As I've got older I've come to appreciate, far more, why non-Western countries find the West's presumptions to have the best political systems (and answers to life in general) questionable, if not arrogant. We do have a bit of a God complex about us, when actually all we've got is a view, not a definite correct answer. I think western democracy is the best, but then I would, wouldn't I?

The glib answer is glib because it assumes that 1) what is happening there is supposed to be a kind of democracy, and 2) that Russian people understand it to be democracy. I would strongly disagree with both of those.

Russia under late-stage Putin aspires to be an Orthodox Christian fascist Eurasian empire. Using the word fascist frivolously is something I find very annoying, so I don't throw it around casually.

Voting in free elections for different ideas is a perverse affectation of the bourgeois intellectual west (that means the Jews, in case you were wondering). Voting should be the ritual homage paid by the population to the charismatic and spiritually pure leader.

I would highly recommend reading scholarly articles about the historical and contemporary figures Putin admires and is inspired by. Ivan Ilyin, Aleksander Dugin, the Izborsky Club, and so on. A lot of what is happening in the world will make more sense afterwards.

There's a lot of empirical evidence to suggest that western democracy leads to better outcomes for countries and the people who live there, so saying that doesn't imply bias. Of course if people want to live under an autocratic regime and are happy there that's great, but it's hard to ascertain that in the absence of a free press and free elections.

Absolutely superb points - a voice of reason. Don't forget Obama's continuation of Guantanamo Bay. The caging of illegal immigrants from Mexico and their children in the Child Detention Centres on the southern border. Damn there's so much. We had family and friends who lived in the US at the time of Obama's reign and they told us that he was hated that much that he would have never got in again if he could have stood for a third term. That was another reason the Democrats went for Hilary as they felt that Biden was too closely connected to Obama. Now, the only options they have to replace Biden is the Vice President with the lowest popularity rating ever, who doesn't have one ounce of common sense and just laughs all the time, because she never understands 'the question' or Michelle Obama.

GW Bush - used his brother Jed (the then Governor of Florida) to prevent black US voters from getting to the polling booths in Florida, so that George W could hold the state and win the election. No election fraud there. Totally out of his depth with 9/11 plus the inference that he and his family were that thick with the Saudis that he protected them at all costs.

Bill Clinton - boy oy boy (latterly used his Foundation to funnel funds to back Hilary in the 2016 election). Ronald Reagan - a movie star as President. JFK, reportedly had over 200 affairs while he was President. Massive disaster with the Bay of Pigs Invasion, which was the start of the confrontation with Cuba which nearly led to a third world war. We're only told today how he stood his ground with Russia.

I just need telling again how bad Trump is. He's no better or worse than any other previous President in terms of character. The USA has always been protectionist and always been seen as the Police Force of the world. The same world that slags of the USA when it suits them. The main difference with Trump is that he didn't start any new wars while in office and his team spent most of their time trying to bring US Servicemen home. If I was American and that meant not sacrificing anyone in my family for a cause a million miles away, I'd give him my vote every time.

All the excellent points. I would just add the caveat that while to Trump’s credit he did attempt to withdraw from several major American military conflicts, he did also lob ~50 tomahawks at a Syrian airbase after the Duma “chemical weapons attack” (that strong evidence since then has revealed was a false flag attack by the American backed insurgents). And he also conducted the missile strike in Iraq on the Iranian general that increased tensions in the region and led to retaliatory strikes (and for me to make bank on my LMT stocks - way hay!!!).

He almost drew all the American troops out of Iraq though, but was convinced at the last minute by the CIA and Pentagon to leave some behind so American can “keep the oil.”

I guess maybe that’s the distinguishing feature between Trump and the rest - he sometimes has the tendency to say the quiet part out loud.
