I imagine Macca knows his level is around probably top end of League 1. With his age and next to no EFL experience I can’t see a champ club splashing a million quid on him so where’s he actually going to go? He loves it here, he sees where the club is going and personally will feel he’s a massive part of it and especially being club captain now, he knows the lows of football so maybe he’s quite astute in thinking Notts is the best place for him to be.

I agree. I think even if he signed for a Championship club, he'd end up in L1 one way or another in a year or two, and that's where he probably belongs. As you said, why not stick at a club that has genuine intensions of reaching that level - a club where you are already a fans' favourite and could become a genuine club legend and the greatest goal-scorer we've seen this century.

If we're still in L2 a year before his contract is up and we've shown no sign of progress, it makes sense for both parties to part ways, but I think it would take a lot for Macca to roll the dice right now.

No problem with changing the captaincy now. And no problem with it being announced during the close season. My point is that the publuc announcement should be left to the last possible moment.
Those players' futures are in the melting pot. It's not fair on the players so what has the club got to gain? My wild theory is that they want to push season tickets at season ticket pushing time.

Championship clubs have a plentiful choice of strikers better than Macca. Even the clubs who get relegated. This is not my view.

My understanding is that KC was told some time ago that he was losing the captaincy and would be allowed to move on if he could find a new club. If he'd been told I can't see any problem with announcing Macca and Matty as the new incumbents

Maybe they're not in the melting pot. The club may have agreed with Macca he’s staying this season regardless of offers as we and him want promotion.
KC may be off if other comments true, what the statement shows is one it does look like he’s staying and yes that will probably increase ST sales and too show it’s a forward proactive decision, not one where it says to fans KCs gone so Macca can have it, I would actually say it shows strong leadership.

I just can’t see any sense in what you’re saying.
Macca has already publicly stated he’s more than happy at Notts and it would take something staggering for him to leave. Why should the club act any other way than he’s staying?
If Macca was to leave this summer, it will be because it suits the club as much as the player. And to any potential buyers, they now know the club have no intent on selling. So if you want him, you’ll be paying top dollar.
And finally, if the news has been released at this particular moment to bolster ST sales….so what.
Good on them for being PR and sales savvy!

Give it up now. You are wrong, it is a perfectly logical time and reason to announce it now. It is categorically not a CYNICAL ploy to sell more season tickets, however it is a fantastic positive bit of news from the club that is likely to result in the sale of more season tickets, as are the 2 great signings so far.

Note - I live too far from the club and have too much on in my life to attend many games but used to be home and away every week when I was still in Notts. I bought my first season ticket in years when the Reedtz took over to help support the club, despite not being able to attend. I continued that until this season when I had decided I could no longer justify it. The news about Macca has changed my mind, especially backed up by the signing of Jacob Bedeau, so I have fallen for the cynical ploy and am renewing. There is something special happening at the club I've supported one way or another, through some thick and a lot of thin, for many years. I expect we will be right up there challenging this season. So FFS take it as a positive and get behind the club, or at least stop publicly repeating this negative view over and over.

Of course he would leave to go to a higher league with more money. He wouldn't be anything if he weren't ambitious. And he's the prime age.
