Compare that position to the result before they took over?
This is the first season they've missed the playoffs. Fantastic owners so far IMO.
I'm worried about SM too, don't get me wrong. I really hope they know what they're doing with him, cos so far he has absolutely not impressed.
Championship clubs have a plentiful choice of strikers better than Macca. Even the clubs who get relegated. This is not my view.
I just can’t see any sense in what you’re saying.
Macca has already publicly stated he’s more than happy at Notts and it would take something staggering for him to leave. Why should the club act any other way than he’s staying?
If Macca was to leave this summer, it will be because it suits the club as much as the player. And to any potential buyers, they now know the club have no intent on selling. So if you want him, you’ll be paying top dollar.
And finally, if the news has been released at this particular moment to bolster ST sales….so what.
Good on them for being PR and sales savvy!
So you’d swap this for Guy Branston back at CB? Delroy Facey back up top? You are talking nonsense. Facts are, until we dropped into non league we were treading water in most seasons this century. *playing a style of football that is lightyears ahead of most of this centuries Notts teams btw.
Singling out two of the very worst of the 470 players who've played for Notts over the last 24 years doesn't alter the FACT that last season was below 20th century average.
Facts are objective not subjective. This is football not Figure Skating, you get no points for style and nobody jumps out of their seat to punch the air screaming with joy whilst looking at a balance sheet (not that ours are healthy, going by what was posted on here).
Finishing 30 places lower than our gate position suggests we're the 2nd worst run club in the football league, behind Bradford City.
99% of owners of any club will claim they they are "heading in the right direction" and "working towards sustainability" unless they're looking to sell it. Name one owner who has ever said "We have no plan, we're just wingin' it. We want to mix up our style of play every season and lose more money."
By your analysis we could never have be a well run club as we would have had to have finished mid-way up in L1 last season to achieve parity. You could flip the narrative and say we had the 48th highest gate in the country despite finishing in 78th position, so are well run in order to attract those crowds whilst under performing on the pitch.
Was Bradford the only team to finish over 30 places below their gate? Gates aren't solely based on position anyway. Other things contribute, such as style (entertainment), marketing, competition from other clubs and general 'feel' around a club. I don't think you can make the statement that we are the second worst run club based only on that metric. I am sure Morecombe fans at least would disagree that we are worse run than them.
In my view, this metric shows we are a well run club, but with an under performing / developing team. I would say a better metric of a well run club would be of year on year improvement based on a combination of gate, league position, turnover of players and improving financials (and I guess only the owners would be able to say what the last one looks like).
