SBRed Match Thoughts Barnsley v Rotherham United

A local Derby against our old rivals from the other side of Wath and a reasonable enough opportunity to progress to the next round and land a glamour tie .

I expect to see some changes from Saturday with starts for Cleary , Bland , Yogonathan , Russell , Farrugia and possibly Barrett .

This isn't about disrespecting the comp this is about creating competition for places with what we have .

I am not sure how we will approach this game team wise , we do not have a lot of options up front or at the back so it makes for a tight call, also I have no idea about the Millers squad this season, I know their form has been up and down but we are coming off our first set back so basically I believe it will be down to who wants to progress most , both teams will make changes so for me it will be another tight affair, we will see.

Smash the fekkers would be my take but no idea what side he puts out? Could be owt.

Russell to score tonight anytime 10/3 or first goal at 11/1 good value and you'd think he'd get a starting berth.

It would be irresponsible to not make changes tonight with the dog bothers here on Saturday!
Both Earl and Shepherd need a break, so hopefully Mael, if fit? And Barrett at the back with Bland and Farrugia.
Flavell in goal with Yoga and Russell in Midfield, play Cleary up front!

Well we are through, but that first half was as poor as i have seen! Not one shot on target, with no cohesiveness at all.
Yogi did himself no favours tonight, off the speed, missing runs, challenges and passes he may well have not been on the pitch! DKD is well off his game, is speculation affecting him?
I thought Shepherd and Barrett were excellent and Farugia played well also.
The subs changed the game Phillips was outstanding when he came on and thank god for Cooper! I was sceptical after the first couple of games, but he is getting it together now and made 3 top drawer saves tonight!
Hopefully the pigs come to us in round 3 now?

First half awful and Rotherham should have put the game to bed .
Second half due to the changes we were better although it wouldn't have taken much .

Don't know what's up with DKD , it's like playing with 10 men , well saying that his head is possibly somewhere else .

Got through so fair enough but that first half was awful .

The old saying of a game of two halves came to the fore , hindsight is a wonderful thing but to me we made too many changes to our starting eleven whilst Rotherham were a lot more conservative and it showed, in the first half we were very poor , we were pedestrian and offered nothing in the final third whilst the Millers played well and were the better side and deserved their lead , however Conor made the changes , upped the pace and we began to play , we eventually turned the game round and could have had more , our football was excellent and some of the movement off the ball was a joy to watch , special mention for Bland who was excellent , Phillips who to me was the key to turning the game whilst Degiviney proved to me that he should be nowhere near the first eleven but it was all about the result and we move on to the next round , lets hope we avoid the big boys !! , now the Wendies at Oakwell would be just my cup of tea !!

That second half performance was much more like it. CH made the changes both tactical and personell wise. We asserted ourselves and played some great stuff at times.

Let's have it right though, the game should've been over at aif time. Credit to Rotherham who kept us very quiet and created some big chances.

As good as that second half performance was, it still took a wonderful save from Cooper who somehow tipped the ball onto the woodwork to stop Rotherham going 2 up which would've killed the tie.

Lots to work on but take the positives out of that 2nd half. Last season we'd have lost that game. You can't deny the spirit and character of those players and CH is responsible for that
