SBRed Match Thoughts Barnsley v AFC Wimbledon

Forecast a dry day tomorrow , cold but some sunshine , I can't remember the last day it didn't rain , awful weather .

Anyway my point was those loyal fans of ours who are turning up tomorrow won't need an umbrella and hopefully we can get a good win to reward them .

When we played at Wimbledon I thought that their defensive unit was superb and that will be the key to the outcome of the match today, we should obviously put them under more pressure this time as we we are the home side and should attack more but I am not sure how to call this, we have not solved our poor defending and I feel that once again we will have to score 2 or even 3 to take the points , we will see.

It's currently 2-3 after we went 2 nil up .

I'm afraid to say that these are the kind of results and performances that get you the sack .

I'm afraid to say it but Roberts is over the hill now and Shepherd isn't ready for League One.
Today showed with the 1st & 2nd goals that Roberts can't track his runners and allows players to get in front of him far too easily.
Shepherd is just making mistake after mistake, Mael can have a mistake in him but he would have cleared all 3 of those attacks and our best CB was on the bench!
As well as those 2, Connell just doesn't know what to do in real time and is left chasing his ar5e! And least said about the team using superglue on the goal line so that Goodman can't move is just unprofessional.

A great match for the neutral a frustrating match for us Reds fans , it highlighted our strengths and our weaknesses , McGoldrick rolled back the years and was my MOM with Connel a close second, he was the only one in the midfield who showed any vision or graft , the usually reliable Kelly was poor today although he nearly won us the game at the end but of course its the defence or lack of defence what dominates any post match discussion, the first and third goal was down to basic defending errors whilst the second goal was a joke , O"Keefe just throwing the ball inexplicably into the middle of the park to gift Wimbledon an opening they were not expecting and they gleefully took it , it was schoolboy at its best but once again poor defending has cost us , players playing out of position and Roberts only fit for sixty minutes max , it was very poor game management from Conor , I could go on but I will leave it there and hope we tighten up on tuesday but I am not confident.

After we went 2-0 up I was hoping for a nice and comfortable routine win but when was the last time we have seen that? I would guess Luton at home when we battered them.

Time after time we shoot ourselves in the foot or just don’t do the absolute basics like closing players down or marking. Their first goal he had an age to put in a cross and their striker was completely unmarked. Was a really good header mind. Their second goal I have no idea what O’Keeffe was thinking and then, yet again, we let their winger get closer and closer to our goal without really doing much. Their third goal, it doesn’t look great on Shepherd with how he went in to the tackle but why did Roberts decide to move into central midfield randomly? Defence completely open because of that. Shepherd has had some good games this season but I think it’s a time for a rest for him. I don’t think MDG is any better but at this point, what do we really have to lose? We are already conceding goals left, right and centre.

Positive yesterday was certainly McGoldrick. Last few weeks he has turned into our best player and not only that, I would bet a decent amount of money that he’s doing more running than probably anyone else in our team. Surely he can’t do that again on Tuesday for 90 though? I thought Bradshaw looked quite, showed some nice linkup play and scored a goal that we all expect him to score. I imagine it might be him up top with Phillips behind him on Tuesday, unless McGoldrick can do it all again so soon.

Connell played well. Won his tackles and passed it about really well. I just wish he wouldn’t take 10 minutes to deliver a corner when it’s 2-2. In the ground it felt like, with the lack of urgency, we were happy with the point…
