Of the thousands, if not, millions of words written by fans about the club, its ownership, management, players, performances, the one element commonly lacking is perspective.
When the wages cap was removed in the 1960’s Bob Lord predicted that it would spell the end of small town clubs like Burnley. Then a First Division club. Post his time the club has gone down to nearly exiting the FL, to ending 7th in the PL and qualifying for Europe under Dyche. Yet even the latter was not enough. Dycheball condemned by one and all.
The expectation is that, somehow, the Clarets will win the PL, the League Cup, the FA Cup and the Champions League not just once, but every season.
Rather than attacking ALK, although serious mistakes have been made, fans would do well to remember the words of Bob Lord and be grateful that the club still exists so that we all have something to moan about week in and week out.
