I think you will find that A Turkey wants the money promised by the EU and B Turkey is less interested in EU membership it doesn't suit the current regimes political thinking, so this is just political posturing and will easily be sorted by a few million euros!

Also I did not say that Europe would have been plunged into a bloody war without the EU, however it is recognised by those intelligent enough to do so that history shows that nations which have strong trading links and for whom it is mutually ebneficial to cooperate with a far less likley to go to war to settle their differences.

Tbf ramspride...the majority of this debate has been conducted better than most but Swale has taken an enormous amount of stick and if he is repeatedly being called an 'arrogant prick/tosser' then you have to expect a reaction. Personally I think stubborn, forthright and single minded would be better descriptions than 'arrogant'. He also seems well informed to me but that's probably because we usually broadly agree. Tricky always seems fairly far to the right and never lets the truth get in the way of his wum agenda and while it's a pity that Gaspode may be pushing off I hope that's nothing to do with this topic because I really don't understand people who moan about the content of threads that no one forces them to read or contribute to especially when it has generated almost 1500 responses compared with the standard average of about twenty.

The past few threads have raised a couple of interesting ironies. It is particularly ironic that an institution such as the EU, one of whose objectives was to promote harmony in Europe and prevent the return of nationalism / national socialism has set in motion policies which are in fact promoting the return of that very phenomenon. The free movement of labour has given the extreme right a new set of targets ulon whom to focus blame for the plight of the domestic JAMs: predominantly Eastern Europen. The EU open door policies on Middle Eastern "refugees" is doing the same thing. The institution grounded in the concept of "never againon my watch" seems to be creating the perfect conditions and environment for "ywt again".

The second irony is of course that this thread is degenerating into personal abuse and intolerance of opinion on both sides and thus becoming fractious and warlike at the expense of coherent debate. The EU promoting disharmony in a microcosm! You bunch of tossers (more irony)

To be honest I don't have an issue with most having an opinion or a view all have something to contribute but I do take issue with Tricky's quoting inaccurate *******s and passing it off as "the facts" the guy's clearly unhinged (well he is a forest fan) although even he has a valid point shame its obscured by so much crap!
