O/T:- ⚠️Impressed with the leadership [The UK Party Politics Thread]

One has left and joined the Labour party and quite a few have voiced their opposition and objections to the leader. Like I said in an earlier post getting rid of Boris could be detrimental to Labour's chances of winning the next election, he could be Labour's trump card.

When Boris is forced out of number 10, every minister that has lied live on TV on his behalf showing complete contempt for the public needs to be ousted aswell!!!!Originally posted by BigFatPie View PostYou mean because of Iraq? The war in Iraq that caused the Foreign Secretary to resign out of er principle? The war in Iraq that the Tories supported? That war?
There were more people in the Labour Party who voiced their objections to Iraq than in the Tories. Clare Short resigned a couple of months later. Tell me how many Tories have resigned in principle because of the current fiasco?

[QUOTE=macstop;39954614]According to the ONS as of yesterday only 17,500 have died FROM covid in the UK since the start, with a big portion of those being over 65, maybe this is why Boris was not afraid to have his parties.

Have those claiming that this is what the ONS have said actually read it?
This is what it says regarding the claim made:
“While the media talks a lot of the 150,000 deaths, perhaps they should have been talking about the number of people who died 'of Covid' not 'with Covid'. That was just 17,371 up to the end of quarter three 2021.”
But during that time-frame, 131,762 deaths were registered in England and Wales with Covid as the underlying cause (i.e ‘of Covid’).
Mr Wootton’s figure refers to those who died of Covid-19 and had no pre-existing conditions. The ONS has called the use of this figure “highly misleading,” continuing to say:
“For those people dying from COVID-19, the most common pre-existing condition was diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic condition, that is serious and may make a person more vulnerable to other health problems, but this does not mean they were at risk of dying from it.”

[QUOTE=macstop;39962288]What the eck has he got to do with it ! - the fact that his name appears in the link is merely because he is mentioned on another page on the Full-fact website (you obs did not open the page to read the ONS statement) The information from the ONS is indisputable.Originally posted by BanjoPie View Post

You seem to have spent those 2 minutes making a fool of yourself ! The flood of misinformation from internet warriors who know more from a few YouTube videos than the combined knowledge of the world's epidimiologists is staggering. If my family member had died 'with' covid from clearly respiratory issues whilst suffering from a chronic unrelated problem I know what I would consider to have killed them.Originally posted by macstop View Post

This pandemic has been awful for lots of people whether suffering healthwise or economically. Idiots like you trying to point-scrore for some agenda doesn't help. Politicians and scientists have on the whole done their best to deal with this and without the worldwide effort it would have been a lot more damaging. Thankfully it seems to be coming to an end.
Thanks for the useful link Banjo.

[QUOTE=magpie_mania;39962317]We must have conspiracy theories. For some reason, whether because of intellectual deficiencies, numerical illiteracy, political ideology, or belief in a weird god there are those who want to misunderstand and don't want to fully comprehend.Originally posted by BanjoPie View Post

First item of interest is that the link cites the name Tony. Anyone using mailchimp might want to check what details it releases when creating a link if I've understood this correctly.Originally posted by BanjoPie View PostFor the sake of clarity and truth -Originally posted by macstop View PostAccording to the ONS as of yesterday only 17,500 have died FROM covid in the UK since the start, with a big portion of those being over 65, maybe this is why Boris was not afraid to have his parties.

Given that Boris was shown as being quite ill with Covid and needed a ventilator plus missed time doing his job it is somewhat surprising that he has such a low respect of the disease. It's like it has made his brain more gung-ho instead of more appreciative of the damage he should have seen.
Now to the statistics - https://www.ons.gov.uk/aboutus/trans...volvingcovid19 gives some clear explanations and they are not always as the layman might interpret. This is not uncommon is specialist activities but it would have been nicer to have the clarity all along, though no doubt there was no intention to hide it.
Quite why folk are still looking for a conspiracy angle instead of a fuller understanding is baffling. But the figures really are to aid management and government not Joe Public. And I guess it is the first time such figures have had to be presented widely and if deeper explanations were given I've missed them, and I don't recall the journalists paying much attention to them at the briefings. But then it's pretty dry stuff unless trying to cook up a conspiracy.
Let's hope Meatloaf, supposedly another anti-vaxxer, can now knock the hell out of those bats that are supposed to have started this whole thing.
