I totally agree with that, the vast majority of Brits who go abroad are friendly and respectful. The problem is the size of the minority who are the opposite. It's just that our minority with no respect seems bigger than any other country. I can honestly say that whenever I have seen trouble and bad behaviour abroad it's caused by Brits more often than not.

    • So we're back to by-elections tomorrow in two historically very safe Tory seats. One because the utterly obnoxious Nadine Dorries has finally quit, and one because Chris 'Bottom' Pincher couldn't control his hands after a few drinks. It looks likely that the Tories will hold Mid Bedfordshire with a hugely reduced majority, because Labour and LibDems decided to fight it rather than one of them stand down and give the other an easy win which is disappointing for ABTT (Anyone But The Tories) supporters like me. Tamworth is a straight fight between Tories and Labour, and Labour need to win this one if they want power next year.

It will be interesting to see if the polls have got it right or wrong.

      • I find it impossible to believe anyone in their right mind would want to vote Tory after the past 12 years they have inflicted on us. They only have one Mantra which is immigration. They have made this far worse with Brexit and their designed tactic off not clearing asylum seekers whilst letting them pile sky high in 5* hotels and use this as a stick to beat them with. I think there must have been quite a few lobotomies out there for anyone to put a cross in the box marked Tory !!!
One good point though is the 40 new hospital , I wonder how they are all going ?

I think the problem is there is no viable alternative, the alternatives are just as bad. I’ve said it before there is an open goal for a new party to come in and sweep up.

              • Good night for Labour although they shouldn't get carried away. A good chance to give the Govt a kicking, and this is the legacy of Dorries and Pincher.

While the Conservatives will roll out the usual 'Govts don't win by-elections', I should think, and rightly so, that behind the scenes there will be an amount of panic.

Osborne has just spoken about 'armageddon' for tories at the GE. I suppose that means well under 200 seats like 97/01
Will Sunak last til then? There has to be a serious chance he won't. But they're goners whoever leads them.

Changing leaders again before a GE would be suicide for the Tories. You'd have to say their outlook is rather bleak

It'd probably save them a few seats actually. But then they'd be led by another loser and would change again.
A lot of their MPs have already lined up their next jobs, it's only about jumping ship now.

                      • Sunak doesn't have a clue what to do next. He tried lurching to the right by ditching green policies, but it seems he only appealed to those who would vote for him anyway. The low turnout showed that many voters are sick of the Tories in particular and politics in general. A general election should be called now, but it seems we will have to blunder on for another year with this corrupt and incompetent bunch dragging us further down.

A special mention to Reform UK. They consist of the worst elements of the Tory party and don't have a hope in hell of winning any seats, but they played a big part in Labour winning two yesterday!

I'm not a politics expert far from it but is Sunak not waiting for another year to call a general election because that would be his most realistic chance of winning, if he called an election now he would basically be giving up.

Mid-Beds Labour actually got fewer votes than in 2019. Don't know about Tamworth, can't be bothered to look!

Seems to me that they didn't want to vote Conservative after how Dorries treated them, but they weren't willing to switch in big numbers to Labour.

All to play for I reckon - will Starmer snatch defeat from the jaws of victory though?

What really annoys me is that Johnson & Dorries will not be at all bothered.
