  • Climbed up the hill after the 9th

Tempted to nip into the bar but heard there were some issues with Raging so started round again on this 9 hole course.
So the 10th is the 1st etc

    Down the hill*
Trees to the right separating the 10th (1st) from the 9th (18th)
Out of bounds to the left

3W off the tee. Shocking shot. Went right, hit the practice nets just in front of the 9th. 1y
Free drop but best I could do was chip out onto the fairway. 1y
Topped it ! but at least still on fairway. 1g
5 iron straight into bunker on LHS of green 1g, 2y
Sand iron, on green at last 3ft from pin 2g, 2y
Tricky putt, several options but just holed it 5g

    Double Bogie 6
    7 over for the round

    * Clue

...and what an advantage that turned out to be. Powerful wood drive from the tee straight down the fairway to within thirty feet of the green but a terrible lie with no view of the hole (1y 1g) Could have played it safe and chipped on to the part of the green I could see and then a possible long put birdy or a comfortable par.

Instead I thought "I'm gonna chip blind over this hillock and see what happens."

..and it worked! Straight into the hole blind from a total of eighty feet for an eagle!! (5g)

A moment of daring that truly paid off
Wow, very impressive 2 is that CT, although when I read the bit where you said "I'm going to chip blind over this hillock" my first thought was "I didnt know gru was playing"..... UTM

Waterfront, Bramley. (Nine hole course, apparently. Looks good.)

Has anyone guessed Rotherham G.C at Thrybergh yet? Never played it but I suppose we could ask TS?

              • Another par 4 today (Tue 22nd Nov)

Thought I'd hit the ball well from the tee but it went to the right of the fairway around 120yds from the green and just into the rough (1y)
Hit what I thought was a decent 2nd shot, but it bounced on the green and overshot into the bunker. The wife said " you're getting better" and I said "how do you figure that?" she said "you've started to miss a lot closer now" sarcastic cow (1g+1y)
Anyway had a reasonable lie in the bunker just to left of the sleeping pup and his bottle of vodka, so took out my sandwich, sorry sand wedge, and hit a great shot out of the bunker to within a foot of the hole (4g)
I had to be careful as I worked out i had 2 choices in how to play it, but took the most obvious choice first and it rolled straight in for a par 4.

                  • Faith in my trusty old driver resulted in a nice 290y drive in the middle of the fairway.

2nd shot was a lovely flighted 7 iron that brushed the hole and rested to within 5 feet.

A tricky 5 footer with a left hand break. In the side door for a birdie 3.

                        • Par 4, despite terrible conditions
                          Decent drive, 3y
Approach shot pulled to right of green, 3y
Left chip shot 20 ft short. 3y 1g

                          • My new starter word is working well for me, wished I’d used it before now.

1 wood hit it straight as an arrow and it bounced on for a 261 yard drive - 2g

Quick look up and yes it was only a 9 iron I needed to reach the green. Good lift up and down and damn! 6 inch from the hole- 4g.

Now was it this word or that word?…”Go with your first thought”, I told myself. Deep breath simple tap and it disappeared into the hole…boom! A luvlee 3 for today 😄
-1 under so a move in the right direction now on +7.

                            • Hole 11

Back up the hill parallel to the 10th, with additional hazard of steep banking halfway between tee box and the green.
Hit that and you're back down at the bottom with a tricky recovery shot.

So managed to hit it and ended up at bottom ! 2y
Decent 9 iron up and over the banking and within short shot of the green 2g, 1y
Pitching wedge to within 4ft of hole 4g
Does it play to the right or left. Was going to aim slight right but changed my mind at last minute. Went other way and straight in 5g

                              Par

                              7 over for the round

                              • Unspectacular drive and solid 2nd to the edge of the green but a tricky lie. Contemplated putting it, then contemplated the wedge. What about bellying it with the metal headed 'wood'?. No chip and run with the 7 iron? Finally went back to the putter and for once realised I'd actually made the right choice. Birdie 3 and -5 after 10.

                                1y
