In recent years it?s been the Lib Dems who have had the honesty problem (in the sense of being honest with the electorate). They have refused to pretend that Brexit has been anything other than the equivalent of an economic bin fire and an act of self-harm by the UK and have pointed out the need to raise taxes if we want a functioning NHS. It?s a strategy that hasn?t worked out too well for them.
A few years ago, the taxpayers of Bedfordshire were asked if they would like to pay a few quid extra for additional policing and said no. It?s possible, I suppose that they were all very happy with the policing of the county, but I suspect that they were not but thought someone else should pay:
